Have just aquired a nice 16v Mk1 Astra..Needing to replace the clutch though....Which clutch shall I get, or will a standard replacement do the job...?
Without removing the cover plate, are all xe engines the same clutch, I was told the engine was from a Calibra, can I tell the age of the engine from the serial no?, haven't checked which gearbox it has..is it right the F16 & F20 bolt straight in, is this right, which best suits the engine?.
& finally.....Engine cutting out when dipping the clutch...& idling little high sometimes....(admitadle needs a tune), & engine mounting + exhaust is blowing a little...So....I've read about this on hear b4..Common?
greetings, there are two different clutches available for the xe due to the flywheel, one is a flat flywheel and the other is the "pot" or "dish" type flywheel, ithnik you can only tell if you remove the inspection cover.
the xe is also fitted with the F20 gearbox as standard but some people choose the F16CR which is the close-ratio version to get better accellaration but iwould of thought that yours is the F20, have a look where the gear linkage enters the gearbox and it should have F20 cast on to the housing.
the idling problem is prfobably the idle control valve which needs a claen ecery now and then and it is mounted ubder the inlet manifold.
