    Unhappy 3-1 manifold

A few weeks ago i had a little incident with a speed bump (60mm lowering on 15's) end result was my 4-1 stainless manifold getting a bit of a scrape. But, yesterday, all of a sudden my car's nice exhaust note decided to morph into the noise of an ill running tractor end result :

its not to clear on the pic, but basically the bottom pipe is no longer connected to the rest of the system. FCUK!

now, i need some opinions as to what to do:

    1) get it repaired, although i'm not to sure if this is possible, seens as the whole pipe is severd all the way around.

    2) new manifold, £300, or if anyone has one of these feel free to let me know!

    3) old manifold back on. which isnt possible because the fittings are completely different. what's a cav gsi manifold like ? (if it would mate up to the rest of the system, i'll go get an xe)

all info will be greatly appreciated, as i cant have the car off the road for to long, but i have absolutely no idea what to do now.....
The cake is a lie :(

    Re: 3-1 manifold

well if its bad, chances are they will cut the collector off and reweld the lot together
probably be easier and cheaper to get a new one

you cant really make it out in the pic, but if you push the whole pipe, it is only being held on by the face where it bolts to the head.

do you know what a cav gsi manifold is like ?

    Re: 3-1 manifold

only real way of doing that is to cut the collector, and weld the pipe from inside.

then reweld the collector back together.

Had a crack there on my magnex manifold, again it's a fair bit lower to the ground thatn the standard one, but fortunately I caught it while it was only part way cracked, and welded it up.

    Re: 3-1 manifold

Is it a 16V? if so just fit the STD XE manifold and take it to an exhaust specialist and get them to mate the XE manifold to the system.

If its not, try to get it welded.
    or
According to T.V the std manifold on the 2.0 8V engines isn't a bad piece of kit...could refit one and get someone like powerflow to mate it to the system.

Sucks though, having 15's and lowering 60mm is only for every other developed country in the world mate we can't get away with it, my MK3 is on 15's and lowered 40mm and the front splitter always wants to touch speed bumps!

If you decide to scrap it, I'll take it off your hands for spares.

Dunno about yours but mine is a 2.25" system, whereas standard is 2"

    Makes mating the 2 interesting

    Re: 3-1 manifold

My standard manifold was knackered when I first bought my last Cav with a 2.0 8v SEH lump. The problem was the threads were knackered. So I rang a vauxhall breakers who sorted me out with a reconditioned one for about £30 plus VAT and they took the old one in exhange.

    Worth a try.
