when my cav 20i is cold it has plenty of poke but as soon as it heats up it seems to loose a fair bit of it!
any ideas on what's causing this and how to cure it?
It may be a faulty ECU temperature sensor. It basically tells the ECU what themperature the engine is at so it can chuck in the more or less fuel (like an auto choke).
If its goosed then it may be reporting the temperature being too low so it chucks in too much fuel when its heated up.
Look just below the top radiator hose and you should see 2 devices with a couple of wires each. Look for the blue sensor and thats the one you want.
its round the back of the engine in the area of the altenator on 2.0 8v engines
oh yeh, i know the 1 your on about now.
I knew there was a 'thing' that controls my rad fan with 1 wire going to it at the front but couldnt remember seeing anything with a few wires comming out of it.
the sensor for the rad fan is in the end of the rad(two wires). the sensor for the dash temp guage is in the thermostat housing (single wire), the temp sensor for the ecu is round the back of the block by altenator(two wires). too many sensors
Doh sorry..... assumed it was a GSi being 4WD
phone vx today and the quoted me £17.25 + vat (£20.27), but as i work in car spares i got it for £15.06 + vat (£18.26).
