Hello Vaux fans. I'm the proud owner of a mk2 Astra SXi with 113k on the clock. Me and a rather more skilled mate have just finished fitting a port/polished head (18SE of course) along with cleaned/reground valves, clean injectors, new head gasket, new dizzy, head bolts and a cleaned plenum and throttle body. Add to this the Kent AST-20 cam, a Pipercross filter, Ashley manifold, Janspeed system and an FSE boost valve, it goes like a bomb!
But when we took the head off and the plugs out (£50 worth of NGK platinums) I was horrified to find 'em black with soot after only 20k! Now I knew that it was running rich cos it shouldn't have passed it's MOT (that depends who you know of course!) and it stinks at idle. Since the new head is on I guess it should be getting more air but it still smells rich to me and I don't want the plugs sooting up again. I turned the boost valve down slightly to around 1/4 of a turn from factory (what FSE recommends).
Does anyone know it the BVs cause rich running (I've head bad things about the FSE rising rate regulator). If I get a gauge for it what is the best fuel pressure to run (2.5bar?)
Thanks for your help.
