I've just undertook a small project; I'm trying to install a LCD numerical display to show the gear position. I've figured out the display part: It's a seven-segment display with a common anode, and a specific cathode combination lights up the corresponding segments.
My problem is this:
I need some type of mechanism to make the display work, a sort of 'sender' to tell the display what gear the transmission is in. Where would be best to mount one? I.e. gear lever, selector rod, gearbox internals? How can I go about it? How would you build it? Ideas welcome!
