ok, havent been on mig for ages since moving house. now i've pretty much got the garage set up, and the space (and funds from a new job) to attempt a decent project, which i've been planning for a while.
i'm gonna get an seh soon and do the following :
rebore with oversized standard pistons
new everything (bearings etc)
anything else which needs sorting, (regrinding crank?)
then i want to get motorbike throttle bodies as a cheap option (seen it on here before, still researching)
and hopefully, use megasquirt to control the fueling. i've been looking at the website and all seems ok, software looks good, but, i'm not sure if an 8v has an 'exhaust gas oxygen sensor' or air temperature sender, so i'm assuming i could use one from an xe or ecotech ?
and, i'm fairly clueless on ignition, so as the megasquirt doesnt control this, can i revert to an earlier dizzy setup ? or do i need to wait for the megasquirt which does, which is supposedly coming.
any usefull info would be great, i'm really excited about this and want to get cracking as soon as i pick up an seh.
i've read through the haynes manual, so i was gonna follow that as i'm doing it. my birds uncle owns an engineering company, so i was gonna take what needs measuring there, and get them to measure it all and see what needs replacing. i'm gonna learn as i go along basically.
no, but how does it connect to the spark plugs ?? lmao i'm assuming i need a dis pack from another car ? infact, i dont even know how mine works. it has a dizzy but i think the spark is ecu controlled ?
i did think about getting an mbe, i'd still need the dis pack tho i think. and i dont think i'd get the same feeling of acheivement, and tinkeringness i would with the megasquirt. plus i'm a programmer, and like the way you can get the source for megasquirt, meaning i could play with it further all sorts of interesting things. (and cash is tight :-) )
but, on the other hand it is a hell of a lot of effort. whats entailed in changing the crank wheel ?
erm 30 quid or summat i imagine, cant be all that much (might be wrong lmao)
we can do them, and are going to try a few megajolts on bike engines at some point, but its a lot of hassle when you have the wrong crank wheel and the option to buy an off the shelf item to fit for a coupld of hundred more
you would probably have to map the fuelling yourself as well, and tbh if you dont know how it fits together i wouldnt imagine the engine would last, sorry
