I've had a Astra 1.8 SXI 1991 for about 2 months now and although it seems quite quick and handles well it has its problems, if anyone can help with the things below i'd be grateful!
Electric Windows: When I first got the car the passenger side window worked fine but the drivers window didnt, so I opened it up and played around with the alignment and it started working again! It sat for about 3 weeks then I got it insured and started using it on the road, the windows worked for 2 days then both of them packed it! Fuses are fine but they dont make any noise (clicking or anything) but you can see the dash lights dim when I try to use them? Surely both of them cant be needing re-aligned and they cant both be needing new motors? They were well lubricated too? Any ideas?
Heater: Works most of the time but sometimes it cuts off, checked fuse and switch! Its like a loose wire? Maybe the motor connection?
Water: It takes about a week for it to use all its water in the radiator tank! I have thought I have heard water splashing about inside the car so I would be interested to know where this drip tray is that someone was talking about in another post? Mind you since the water has been disapeering the car seems quite a bit down on power so I think it is slightly leeking into one of the cylinders, will a pressure test show this up? No white smoke!
Steering and Handling Seems to tramline and generally be all over the place, not confidence inspiring! I think this is the tracking though so I will take it to get its tracking done and see if this solves the problem!
Knocking Noise: There was a knocking noise coming from the front right, this turned out to be the front roll bar link to the support for the wheel! Now theres a new knock when I go over bumps coming from the right front again?
A friend is selling his P reg Astra LS 1.6 for £2500 so I cant decide whether to spend money on my astra getting it all sorted or just buy his one and starting to mod that, its very reliable and I know there is nothing wrong with it!
