I've just picked up an old astra GTE 16v thats been sitting around for 2 years for a bargain sum of £90; only problem is, its in a real state - wires cut here and there, wires hanging out of the dash...wires everywhere, and it wont turn over. I put the key in the ignition and turn it, and nothing happens - the windscreen wipers move and the vauxhall alarm goes off (which ive now unplugged) but no engine movement whatsoever, not even clicking.
Problem is, it doesnt even have a dash so i cant see what lights come on lol.
I think he car has some kind of immobiliser as i found an immobiliser key in it - but i cant find where to put the key. I can see where the hole to put it was - but there is no key recepticle there now.
my qustion is, which part of the looms should i check in order to just get it to start? where are they located?
or am i better off just pulling the engine out and having a look with the engine out (the engines going into a nova)
be aware that the car itself is VERY bad condition, rust, wires, glass and stuff everywhere - under the bonnet has wires everywhere, stuff not plugged in, wires cut etc.
are XE looms very complicated? I.e if i just pull the engine out will i be able to re-wire most of it myself? or should i try and do it with it in the car? its just i dont want to take the engine out and find out i cant get it running.
or if anyone has a comple XE loom for sale ill probably have it.
