one of my cars is a 1.4 nova, tuned to around 90bhp with a 100bhp nitrous kit. so, (obviously this isnt true) but figure+figure = 190 BHP from a 1.4 with NO strengthening whatsoever - i know this is pushing the limit, but i dont care because its a fun car.
before i switched to iridium spark plugs, pre ignition from the tip of standard spark plugs getting hot used to cause my exhaust valves to break, making one cylinder 0 compression and making the engine feel very unbalanced at all times.
over the past few weeks my engines been behaving very strangely again...it idles very chuggingly, if that makes sense - just like it used to when i used to burn out a valve on the nitrous.
Now its doing it again - first i thought it may be one of my hydraulic lifters needing cleaning/replacing, coz it does that when they dont pressurise properly (as a valve wont seal fully) but ive ruled that out, along with any other compression problems as the engine compression tests fine!
Now, my question is - how daft is it to think i may have bent my crank/a con rod or something? And is there any way i can check without dismantling the whole bottom end? does anyone have any experience of 1.4 engines with this sort of power?
If this is daft, does anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem? as i say, engine compression tests fine, ive just put a new cambelt on and timed it in, and ive just rebuilt the carburettor as well.
Cheers chaps, answers on a postcard please.
