cavalier 4x4 turbo
hi anyone expert on 4x4 turbos.
because im going with my mate to see a cav turbo, but need to know how will i find out if the transfer box is faulty and the gearbox.
i have been told that there is cronchy noise on the gearbox when driving, is that the transfer box or is it the whole gear box.
someone please help, how i can i find out the real problem and how much is it going to cost me.
Dont worry too much about the gearbox until your certain its faulty.
Its common for the 2nd gear synchro to crunch when you change into..... er..... 2nd of course
Have a look at this buyers guide for more info on transfer box tests etc - Cav/Calibra Turbo Buyers Guide
but the problem is that the noise is there while driving continuous.
how will i find out what the problem is.
ive got that problem on my 8v cav sri, it is very stiff when i drop to second, and sometimes dont go into 2nd when i drop from 3rd, i have to swing around fast and it goes in. from 1st to 2nd not much problem.
Hard to say without actually being there TBH. It could be the gearbox itself or the transfer box.
If its the gears in the transfer box then removing fuse 19 may not show this up unless its the gearing between planetary and sun gear thats knackered.
I'm trying to think of any other Cav/Cally turbo drivers near Birmingham that could take a look with you. Will see if I can remember of anyone.
