I have been asked to drop a valver into a mates corsa for him, I'm not afraid of the hassles that these jobs can give, I have done several xe novas and 1 LET nova which I wouldn't find a problem doing again.
I went to have a brief look at the corsa today to see what differences there was between the nova and corsa! and I'd say quite a lot.
First of all the car he owns has power steering, ABS and Air Con. The air con will obviously come out for the conversion, is there anything I should know about removing the air con? The main issue is the mounts and shafts, do PVD make a kit for the corsa? or can you get away with running the mk2 cav cv's, but then what shafts would u use? The PAS I presume would be kept and maybe driven by the XE power steering pump? or does the double bottom pulley foul on the bottom of the wing? also what engine mount is used as both gearbox mounts look like the same as a nova.
Is there any wiring involved with ABS? I'm guessing that wont be too much of a problem, hopefully
What modifications need to be done to the engine bay to fit the XE in? I have got a Ecotec inlet pipe so this can be used instead of a power cap apparently?
If anyone has any other suggestions or advice or links they can give me about such a conversion please let me know. Also obviously if anything like the Air con or the old engine which has covered 82k is wanted by anyone please PM me as they will be up for sale as soon as I remove them.
Ive just finished a 2.0 ecotec conversion into a corsa, a bit easier than the nova in many respects...
no mods needed to the engine bay for a start
you could probably use AC and PAS, would be nice if you could, such a rarity in a corsa, shame not to use it really, i guess you can probably use a cav AC pump or somthing, but the best bet is probably to use the wide belt system with tensioner to run the alternator, AC and PAS.
mounts are fairly easy, if you are good with a welder, you could probably makeup the drivers side one, if not, they are fairly cheap to buy, it is basically an adaptor that bolts to where the f/o/s mount was and allows you to use an astra mk2 engine mount.
Drive shafts are easy, because you can use pretty much any big block drive shafts, Astra mk3 ones are what im using in mine.
Hubs, you will need to either buy some hubs designed for taking big block shafts in corsa bearing, or get the hubs out of the car that the engine is comming from, take them to a local engineering place allong with the bearing and one of the old corsa hubs and ask them to make it fit.
yeah, an XE should fit with an ecotec adaptor plate.
ABS will be un affected, but it will probaby be quite a tight engine bay
Top stuff, thanks for all that, some pics would be good, just something to go on, The air con will be removed as it only saps power and fuel and being honest the old boy is such a boyracer he always has his window down
I think he's gone a buy a pvd kit which will save me a lot of hassle tbh, I suppose the rest of it is just normal, does the bottom pulley foul the bottom of the wing though? thats my only worry really
