1990 c20xe from calibra. sat on garage floor at the moment
i've replaced thhe water pump and idler / tensioner, an dhave slipped the new belt on, but i'm not entirely sure about lining it all up.
bottom pulley is lined up to tdc on cyl1, and cam sprockets are lined up to camcover notches.
haynes says to slip the belt on starting at the bottom, and working up, but i'm ending up with loadsa slack between the 2 cam sprockets.
they are almost lined up, but spring back to where the valve springs are making them rest.
should it be done all static, or does the engine need turning over to get tension into it?
also, how do you set the tension correctly. haynes says 45degree twist between exhaust sprocket and idler wheel, but do i just push the tensioner across till it's tight then nip up the bolt or have i got the wrong idea.
thaught it was something i'd be able to do without help, but it's also something that i particularly don't want to screw up.
any help or guidance gratefully recieved.
