Hi guys n gals
at the weekdn i'm going to start stripping the xe engine from my astra gsi ready for a Let engine when i can afford it..
How do i go about stripping the wiring? do i have to go through the loom in the car splitting the car loom ( lights etc) rom the engine loom. Or are they seperate in the first place? also where do i split the wires from the car? am i right in thinkin its in the drivers footwell..
I'm not really confident in doing the wiring where i'm fairly sure about the rest so any help would be much appreciated ..
the xe loom is pretty self contained.
when i stripped my cavvy one its simply connects to the engine then feeds thru the bulk head to the ecu on the drivers side.
disconnect everything then pull the cables out from the engine bay side.
nah it should pull straight thru without need for any tape cutting.
sum things like rad and temp sensors are on the other loom, but thats not essential to running the xe, all u need is the loom on the left of the bay (connected to all the fule injectors etc.
iv just stripped the loom out of the callyturb for my conversion all the loom is one piece apart from 2 small multi pugs leadin the the main car loom presumably going to the dash for engin oil n batt light n stuff the ony prob you might have is if someone has cut into it for an alarm. you just disconnect the ecu n pull it through to the engine bay its not to bad a job if you have some mechanical knowlage mate youll b ok.
is it a mk3 gsi mate im also startin a turb conversion. what g box do u intend runnin? im still stummed 6speed or 5.
Arr im not very good with electrics mate the best thing to do is strip the trims by the ecu n look where the alarm wires are cut into the loom i was lucky i never had an alarm on the calibra n i havent removed the loom from the astra yet that has the clifford fitted? you might be lucky just have an attempt c how it goes if you have to cut anything lable and mark it with masking tape and make a back up note of wiring colours on a bit of paper incase mate.
