the middle row of bolts securing my cam cover to the head have all sheared off, and are just vibrating around in their holes. the bolts around the perimeter of the cam cover are all ok and secure, but how would this have happened?
is it worthwhile trying to extract/tap them out or will i leave them in,i dont see how it would do any harm?
so theoretically if i take the cam cover off i'll be left with the middle row of bolts snapped off in their holes (i.e even though they have sheared off it wont stop me getting the cover off) ????
the bonnet lining has a thin mist of oil on oil, do you reckon thats where its come from? surley leaks will depend on wether or not the bolt is snapped above or below the point where the cam cover meets the head?
im a bit confused now!
not really bothered, just wanted to clean the lifters, but im thinking this problem will get in the way.
but the holes for the bolts in the top of the cylinder head must be threaded, right? or else the cover wouldnt stay on. there isnt any chance i could have some bolt ends in my cam casing is there? even if the snapped bolts came loose they would be held in their holes by the rocker cover.
i'll be taking it to bits soon, i just want to get clued up while im too busy to start it,
