My Brother's recently bought a 1.8 Vectra and there's a few things that need sorting.
Firstly and most urgently the gearbox apears to be leaking from the bell housing. I'm assuming this would be the input shaft oil seal (?) waving goodbye maybe? It's been leaking quite badly and he's got that lovely gearbox oil aroma in the cabin through the heater vents. Needs rectifying now lmao. Would it be easier to just get another box and swap them over.
He has also had a few problems with the car over and now under revving. It did idle at about 1500 when warm but now seems to be hunting and stalling when in traffic. I hear idle problems are quite common with these engines.
Early Vectras had a fault with the gearbox end gasket blowing (usually when doing high speed engine braking type stuff).
Gasket only costs a few quid from Vaux, but the subframe needs to come off, at least partially.
Idle valve causes the other problem. Along with the little breather pipe blocking up at both ends( throttle body housing and cam cover).
Assuming that this isn't the all ally 1.8 16v ?
