What 'appened waz...
Friday lunch time got into my Nova TD, drove 50 yards turned right... then the cabin started filling with nasty white smoke, smoke also started piling out from under bonnet... immediately pulled in, turned of ignition, no result - engine still running keys in hand??? stalled the car to stop it, popped the bonnet, got out and checked the loom.
There was a thin scorch mark trailing from the bulkhead grommet to behind the pass' headlight, quick check also resulted in finding that an ign' live (black) had burned through.
Tried again to start the car - no probs - and switched off as it should.
Drove car home, with mate following just in case, again no probs, but found once i had stopped the car it wouldn't start - flat battery!
Checked the battery light, blown. Changed it, remained on.
Traced battery light back to charging relay - not there??? - further investigation found it in the pocket of the passenger door!
Changed the relay, £7! (bit steep for a relay) removed dash and replaced burnt cables (from pass head light to joint behind fuse box!).
Now driving around with no dash, just a cable tied in speedo!, so i can see the loom go up again (if it does). But all seems fine now.
Any one else had same/similar prob with TD? D'you think it's sorted now?
I'm not changing the Alt again, it was hard enough finding this one.
