Last night my car started making knocking noises. It seems that when the near side front wheel hits a bump it knocks and if the bump is big enought then when any wheel hits it it makes a noise. I suspect that something has come loose. I am thinking it could be the exhaust as it looks a little low at the front.
I've had a quick look at the strut tops and they seem ok.
Its getting worse quite quickly. But theres no real noise when i'm travelling at speed (45mph+) on main roads. I have recieved my phase kit today as was hoping to go and play but dopn't want to do it if theres a major problem with the car.
I wouldnt drive it if it was that, parts cheap though. £11 if remember rightly? Its a pain to fit though. You have to cut the old one off, then try and push the new one on. Use plenty of grease, and try and emry the bar dowm a bit. It makes it easier. You can do it all on the car, no need to take the anti roll bar off like tha haynes manual says!
i found that the best way to get it on was to put the mounting in very hot water to make it a little bigger/more supple, then use a big g clamp and put the other end on the wishbone... still a struggle to get it on.
the haynes manual says 'press it on'.. yeah right.
Yes i agree with all if its the ARB then god it's a pain.
When they break you usually only notice the noise when cornering the ARB hits the abs hub and chatters like crazy.
Remeber when you cut off the old one there is still a steel insert inside the rubber if memory serves.
Then when you finally fit the new one and stop for a breath you find out you need the jack which is already holding the car up for lifting the wishbone to connect the rubbers and nut !!!
I hate that job !!
