I did a water pump on my astra on Fri, which has brought my running temps down a fair bit! So now it's got me thinking, what is the running temps on XE's for:
Motorway:
Around town:
In Traffic:
Mine is;
92-95 C
95-98 C
100+ C
What is worrying me is the 100+ i know XE's run hot but that is too hot???
I'm prob going to buy all new sensors today as i know these go pop regulary and there not too many pennies.
Out of interest, what type of impeller was on the pump you took off and what type was on the pump you put on? There are 2 types of impellers, one type has the blades cast into them and the other is done by cutting and folding the sheet of metal to form the blades. The type with the blades cast into it is the better type. Maybe you relaced the cut/folded type with a cast version and that's why it's running a bit cooler.
Propably yes.
The engine I have was from a calibra 16v in italy. The italy have the same climate with us.
But again I think that your engine run very hot. You must check it. Change the thermostat, and the fan swithch.
I done some research and it seems alot of peoples if not most run at the same temp as mine! Anyone else shed light, alex has got me worried again! My mate's calibra XE runs the same as mine!
It is not bad the engine to run more cool. The best performance on a c20xe succed from 80c to 90c. Also you don't worry to have a failure head gasket.
And also you the car have less chances to missfiring.
I admit it isn't bad for an engine to run cooler. I like heating though especially for our winters I've not heard good things from people who have used the cool stat! They have mostly been removed and replaced with standard ones, i also admit after sitting in traffic for a bit according to Tech 1 my intake air temp rises by about 3C which is quite alot, that with a standard air box and a air intake pipe coming from the front bumper. In my opinion though as long as no one says it should never get to 100C i'm reluctant to start spending money on sensors, i may change the temp sensor for the clocks which may give a bit more accurate reading!
after fitting a v6 radiator to my cav xe it runs just above the blue around town . when your in traffic it will go up to below 100 then the fan cuts in
Thats a race engine though buddy, not to be confused with a road engine!!!!! Road engine's have to be set up to run efficiently with minimum amount of polution!!!! I wouldn't like my road engine running that cool, plus the oil wouldn't get up to temperature either. On a race engine were there going to be rebuilt regular it wouldn't be bad, i want my engine to last 100k at least!

So thats I told you to run from 80 C to 90 C. The 72 C is very extreme. Also a lot of persons with throttle bodies run at this temperatures at this forum.
termostat starts open at 92ºC (starts) and open at all at 107ºC
termoelectric swich (for the fan, of course) close at 100ºC and open (from close) at 95.
My kadett C20NE works the same way you told in your first post. It have new termostat and new termoelectric swich, even the dash panel indicator and sonde its new ( all from Opel).
If you change your water punp maybe you incrise the amount of water runing throgh the sistem, so it works better.
well i got the same query sorry to steal away in your thread, on my clocks (in my corsa B) i am running a 20XE and recntly i noticed its been getting hot really fast. The fan kicks in at 95 temp drops then risines again in no time does go above 95 though
just worried about it rising so quickly even when driving around, changed the thermostst just unsure what it could be or is it jst the warm summer?
