ok, i'm currently making plans for my first decent project now we live in a house with a garage
nothing to fancy, just rebuilding an seh, doing some diy head work etc.
now the thing i'm confused about is the gearbox to use. i read somewhere that the f16 c/r on a mk2 astra sri is different to that of a cav sri because of the final drive, which i roughly understand about. going from experience, i really liked the ratios of the f16 in my old sri astra, and would like to use one of these for the 20seh.
but, why did they use a different final drive ? is it something to do with the weight of an astra compared to a cav ? or is it just to make the cavalier more driveable as a bigger car rather than a small rapid kinda car
also, is it possible to interchange gears ? eg, use 1-4th from the f16 c/r and 5th from a normal f16 for motorway cruising ?
as much information as possible would be good, because i'm fairly clueless on the subject of gear boxes.
sorry about the essay style post
