just a bit of food for thought for the future as I am planning an XE conversion on my SR.
1. Is the shell strong enough to cope with the extra weight? I read somewhere that it isn't clever to peform the conversion without welding and strengthening on the bay, and the conversion should be done on a GTE/GSi.
2. JustNovas do the whole conversion, including welding for £1500. This seems a little pricey to me as I could probably do the conversion myself with some friends. It's just the welding i'm concerned about.
3. Am I going to get insurance on an XE Nova at 19 with 0NCB?
GTE/GSI's were made a little bit stronger as they had a little but more power.
I'm going to seam weld mine when i do my XE conversion, as its 14 years now, and as you say yours is a SR, which would be about the same age. If you don't it will last a few months til the front end falls off! I was looking earlier at strenghtening kit and they are about £80 + VAT + postage
Best to get it welded up!! I got mine done at ASW for a 1.6 16v conversion and it makes a hell of a difference, nice tought steering!! Plus it also makes it easier when you upgrade the power at a later date!!
My mate has an XE'd Nova GSI and it pulled itself apart at the front, got it all welded up and is fine, so wether you got an GSI or SR get it welded up!! £1500 aint a bad price at all!!!
Alrite, if you've got a mate who's handy with a welder then do it yourself !!
Buy a chassis plate kit from Harry Hockley Motorsport - well worth it.
Try and get hold of a copy of the 'Competition Build Manual, Nova / Corsa' costs about £20, shows you where & what to weld, basically gives you a step by step guide to building a 'Rally spec Nova' !
