Tomorrow is the first day of the resurection of my car from its little hybernation.
Here are the curcomstances that led to its demise, any input welcome now to save time later.
Checked oil before going out castle combe, it was on max, a somewhat "undecidable" oil level light that had been playing up for some time came on, having checked the level before i went out i ignored it assuming the intermitant fault, no oil pressure light came on at any point.(it chucked the oil out the breather as i was caning it lmao). finished my laps ok, slowed down for the final post-finish lap, pootled off the sliproad and it was a couple of minutes before i made it to the stand, so plenty of cool down period.. all fine... when i came to go home hours later the oil level light was still on so i checked it and found low oil, so i topped that up and proceeded on my way, only to find the car stupidly sluggish and no boost what so ever
I crawled all the way home like this, the car drove fine, ok... like a 1.0 litre, but fine, no funny noises other than its pathetic chugging trying to go up any form of a hill.. lmao
When i got home i took the inlet off the turbo to reveal the compressor wheel, feeling it with my hands it was jammed, i gave it a bit of a twist and it instantly free'd up, but at the same time i heard a "tink tink" as something which was obviously lodged in the turbine fell loose...
The car then boosted fine, but the turbine made a "chink chink" noise on boost, which i think is where its not balanced and is hitting the turbo housing... however, after several months laid rest, this noise is no longer evident..
Tomorrow i will be removing the turbo, examining the turbine, and hopefully removing the downpipe and mid section to find the offending bit still in there for identification..
Any ideas??? obviously without correct oil levels we could be looking at turbo oil starvation and overheating/seizing, but why would that have made that chinking noise???? so it also sounds like something was jammed in there, but what?? the engine runs fine, and has no reas suspicious noises....
Ideas of what it could be, or things to check appreceated.. I will be taking the head off to do the gasket, and the cam cover to do the cams and lifters but i was hoping not to do it for another week or so untill the cams arrive back..
Sorry for the long post! i will keep you updated
