Took the head off Scott's (Cally16v) Cally turbo last night.
Following on from these threads:
White smoke tastic...
Compression test results...
Basic problems are loads of white smoke and loosing a header tank of water with the car idling very quickly. Compression results were 180 190 190 190.
Took the head off and everything looks fine. I cant see any signs of any problems.
I imagine that if it lost that much water that quickly then the problem would be pretty obvious, whilst also showing more of a compression test difference. There are also no signs of water/oil contamination.
So if the head gasket is ok it leaves the head, inlet manifold and turbo. From what I understand a problem with the head (porus or crack) would lead to water and oil contamination. The inlet manifold gasket could have gone between the waterway and a cylinder. However after seeing this in one of Scott's threads abovemakes me think (all my own thought, honest lmao) that it could be a crack in the water jacket in the turbo, which is leaking into the turbine side of the turbo and straight out the exhaust, hence only steaming when the turbo has got hot.Another minute detail that might be important, when i first started the car today it didnt smoke at all. Once it was getting up to temp after 5 mins or so it started smoking white smoke then
Does this sound plausable or does anyone have any other thoughts?
