    Like it's a hire car

    XE MK1 Astra

Considering this as my next car (after a 1400 nova!!) Plans so far are:

Bare shell, respray in peugeot lucifer red (I really like david frankzaks car!!)
Full mk2 gte braking system with mintex pads
Mk3gsi xe engine, gearbox and mfd
nova gsi black dash (cars are approx same width, anyone know if they fit??)
    RS turbo recaro front seats
    nova mirrors
leccy windows, central locking, digi dash
    polybushes, courtenay suspension

Anyone who has done this, how challenging is the engine swap?

I take it the brake conversion is similar to fitting all round disks to a nova?? Will the dash fit??
How much do bare shell resprays cost by comparison to blow overs??
How do you present the car to the bodyshop, im thinking of making a couple of brakets so I can attach it to the trailer by the suspension mounting points so they can wheel it around and mask it easily???
How much cost and work is involved in fitting a brand new loom?
Wht panels and glass are and arent available for them and whats the rough cost?
What size of wheels and tyres give the best handling??

    Any help much appreciated, Al

All the above has been done at some point and for the best advice go here http://forum.astra-gte-mki.co.uk/ the mk1 forum register and then ask away.

The brakes from a mk2 astra are fine.
The panels are very hard to find try the forum or heritage vx parts.
    Wheels size 15" are good

    Do it!

Apart from an E30 325i Sport in Dolphin Grey, a Mk1 Astra has go to be one of the nicest looking cars ever made and the XE really suits it well.

    Good luck
