A mate has told me about performance manifolds and reckons it'll be a good way of gaining extra power, but how expensive are they, and what sort of boost will I get from my 1.4 SOHC engine (mk3 Astra).
Btw thanks peeps who helped me out with my cam timing questions in my prev. post!
Dont expect to get a huge amount of power gain, as you wont. However, paired with a good exhaust it will make a worthwhile investment (esp if in the future you intend to do mods like flowed head)
I bought mine from Ashley for £135.
Well the most I'd stretch to would be an induction kit, performance manifold (and exhaust), but I wouldnt want to tamper about with anything else incase I arsed it up, why, how powerful can you make the engine I got, and what else can I do that wouldnt cost me a lot? btw is the C20XE 1.6 litre like my haynes manual says, or a 2 litre like some of the ones on ebay seem to be?
C20XE is 2 litre. thats what the 20 bit stands for. and likewise the 14 bit of your engine code means 1.4.
the 1.4 spi engine was basically built for economy and is a right mare to get power gains from. as frustrating as it may be, it might be wise to stick with an induction kit and back box, save up for a better car or engine swap. its the age old dilemma for young drivers, wanting the cake and eating it.
ok thanks, bin a big help! How much more power would I get with a half decent induction kit, performance back box and performance manifold, I have tried performance spark plugs at 40 notes, but they were ****, so back to good old bosch!
