I've got an astra with a 1.4 litre petrol engine (its a SOHC) and the head gasket has just been replaced, and since then the engine ticking over sounds uneven. When you put your foot down, particularly in third gear, it starts its acceleration and then kicks forward into faster acceleration.
I have spoke to someone who reckons my valve timing is out on one of the pistons, and says I've got a light bottom end tapping. I have just had to scrap my last car because the bottom ends went, is the same happeneing here?
Mainly all I want to know is; are the valves incorrectly timed, will an ECU diag unit pick up on this, are my bottom ends going, how much for valve timing repair, and finally, is there anything else that could cause this?
also, its also recently had a new cam belt, and the car has done 55,000 miles.
ANY help with these Q?s will be a help!
