As some of you may know my old XE had a big smoking problem along with a few other hickups that needed looking at. After careful thought I decided to go for a replacement unit. As look would have it Mr Cavgsi170 had one up for grabs that sounded like the one for me.
So, to cut a long story short.... While I was away in Wales my 'lovely' brother took it upon himself to fit the XE on his own. So, 3 days later, lots of cursing and some loss of blood (usually knuckle scraping) my new XE in inside the CDi..
Initial road test return 100% good results. I've thrashed the XE to the line without any smoke or nasty noises etc and it pulls like it should. Got paperwork showing the porus head fix and a handful of service history etc so things are looking good so far. There are a couple of little bit I need to sort out (couple of cross threaded bolts) but other than that its looking good.
I've decided to recon the old XE over time and make it something a little special as and when I can afford it. Thinking of so TB's/Cams etc etc, however time will tell.
So thanks go to Cavgsi170 for the XE and being a top bloke and big thanks and lots of to my brother for making my return from Wales fantastic.
The a couple of the sump bolts wernt all the way in so my bro had a look and noticed that they had been cross threaded. There were also a few bolts missing around the thermastat and the crank pully (that goes to the alternator IIRC)
No biggies, I replaced the missing bolts (cost about 4 quid) and he's sorting the sump out tomorrow.
Have to say that the engine runs 100% spot on. Not a puff of smoke and get good oil pressure from the off..
The only thing I've noticed is that there seems to be a bit of noise coming from one of the cam rollers. Only on tick over and not all the time. Sounds like it could be worn but I know they are quite new. Its only there for a few seconds every so often so hopefully nothing to worry about.. I'm replacing all that side as soon as its been in the car for a few weeks.... Just 'running' it in for now, if you know what I mean
