Alrite guys and gals. Basicly last weekend while in kent i lost drive after i heard a loud crunching noise while hummin down the A2, anyway, i suspected a CV joint so there i was in kent with the motor on a single jack removing the n/s drive-shaft to replace a cv joint (not very fun when u live in ipswich and had to buy £100 worth of tools that uv allready got to do the job! ) well it turned out that it wasnt the cv joint at all, it was the Diff at fault, both sun and plannet gears had eaten up each others teeth. (i have only just been bothered to have a look at it after i was towed on a 6' piece of rope up the A2, M20 and A12)
Which brings me to my question, on the n/s of the g/box where the drive-shaft enters there is a ring of teeth, is this a cap that can be unscrewd so that the diff can be removed without a gearbox strip? i assume that it is the standard g/box with that car which is a 1997 Astra 1.6 16v arctic with the X16XEL engine.
Cheers for any help i get.
