When i bought my car it had a K and N on it. I have an astra gsi which has the C20XE and no dizzy.
Basically i have just decided to put the standard air box on WITH standard filter!!!! The only alteration to the standard induction system is instead of having that lil rubber pick up pipe bit, i have used the k and n's cold air feed from the front bumper feeding into the air box. Now with the k and n my car held back up to around 3500 rpm. So with the k and n on i lost alot of drivability!!! PLUS at low traffic speeds it used to be a bit juddery! I just went for a lil drive and the car is sooooo much more responsive (i thought k and n's made ur car more responsive????) it feels quicker too!!!!!! I'll do some rough timing later!! I can also floor the car at say 2000 rpm and it picks up and goes! the k and n used to make it judder pick up slow hit 4000 rpm and go! lol!!!
Now i though that k and n's:
-Increased power, the only power increase they may offer is more than likely above 9000rpm where not many people will be at. So if for example you gain 2 bhp@9000 rpm, but lose 5 bhp @2500rpm and most torque below 3500rpm, it isn't actually beneficial having the 'extra power'
- Better throttle response, now thats just bull, if anything it is better with the standard air box!!!!
- Unlimited lifetime bla bla, ok it wins in that department!!!!
What are other peoples views on k and n's? Also what is the best panel filter for my engine! Would it be a k and n?????
