I have throttle bodies with Alpha engine management which I cannot remap myself. The engine has been fine for a few years but it's started pinking quite obviously around 3K RPM in higher gears (when it's 'strugging' more). I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to diagnose the problem without having to go to an Alpha specialist? My current thoughts are:
Try a higher octane fuel.
Check all sensors are connected (would a failure of any particular sensor cause this?)
I had the head off recently and I noticed that pistons 1 and 4 had white crust on the top, I hadn't noticed any burning oil.
