Just wondering if any of you knowledgable people could help me out here? I`ve just acquired a 95` 1.8 16v Astra Sport Estate with 96k on the clock. My mate bought it after it had been in a front ender ,got a bit cash strapped and passed it on to me .When I went to pick it up today the guy said it was low on petrol and not idling very well, flat battery and also the rad was leaking a fair bit of water . I took it about 25 yards up the road and it pulled really great, drove fine but hunted a bit on idle.I left it off for 5 mins and it started ok on a booster pack, drove round the corner and it spluttered to a halt and wouldn`t go on my crap booster pack. I looked under the car and the rad was ****ing out water, put a new booster on it and it went first time, but still missing a bit.I then drove the 10 yards back to the garage holding the revs up, which seemed ok and switched it off asap. They`re putting a new rad and battery on it tommorow, but I just wondered if anyone else has had this problem? not sure if it`s coolant sensor/head gasket? Any replies much appreciated, thanks for looking, vaughant.ps it has not overheated in to my knowledge
Thanks for the quick reply mate, only thought of the coolant temperature sensor `cos of probs with other cars, non vaux.Pretty sure valves etc ok as car was v.quick when it went up the road.My girlfriend reminded me that it had been left out in the rain for some time with no bonnet on it,maybe water has got in somewhere, ecu perhaps? Also,it hasn`t been driven for the best part of a year, so maybe needs a good run to sort it out.I`ll keep everyone posted and really appreciate the advice, vaughant.
Right, i`ve now got the car home and it drove really well from cold, but when warm had a continual missfire, still driving but felt like on 3 cylinders. When i got it back home, I noticed that there was a bubbling from under where the leads are, so I took off the lead cover and pressure came out through the bolt holes, any ideas? Also, apparentley the car was running a1 before, m8 reckons it`s cause the coolant dosen`t seem to be getting round the motor very well?PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!
IT`S CURED!!!!What a donkey fault!!!! The car had been sitting outside, unbeknown to me without the bonnet on it in the lovely welsh rain lol that we get which had consequently filled up the plug/lead apertures causing it to run like the proverbial nail!!! did the leads and plugs ans now she goes mint!!! Thanks for the tips guys, vaughant.
