While topping up the oild this morning I noticed a small split in my cam belt. I've had to run the car with the cover off for a while as some of the fixings were damaged (when I got the engine) and wont secure the cover firmly.
As you look in the engine bay the split runs in the centre of the belt from top to bottom an is about 4mm long. As if some grit has managed to find its way between the belt and roller etc. I'm getting a new XE very soon and don't have time to replace the belt at the moment. I've monitored the slpit over the past few hours (been about 10 miles) and its not changed at all. I know this isnt an exact science and it should be replaced ASAP but didnt know if it would last me a coule more days of steady driving. It could have been there for weeks anyway. I know this is 'At my own risk' driving but just wondered if anyone had any experiance of driving on the edge!
