Well, i made it to PV, my car didnt though(92 Calibra Turbo).
Happily boosting at 0.6 bar in 6th, when the engine simply switched off. Luckily i was at the top of a hill, and had the momentum to get the car to the hard shoulder. Opened the bonnet to be greeted by coolant squirting out of the top right of the rad onto the front bumper. Because it just cut out, i immediately feared the worst, and thought i had melted a piston . Sat there with Miles effing and blinding for a bit until the RAC flatbed arrived 45mins later. Amazingly/happily it started, and it was driven 15yard onto the trailer and taken back to my house while i continued to pod.
I wonder what came first overheating causing rad to burst, or rad bursting causing overheating...chicken and egg i guess.
1)Im getting an intercooler shortly, would it make sense to change to an XE rad? And if i did so what would i need plumbing wise, will the LET coolant hoses reach to the XE rad? Or will it be a mix and match job. Just thinking it will probably be easier to find a XE rad locally alot easier than a LET item.
2)I'll probably get a Frontera intercooler, i figure i can get one locally quick enough, and it should be adequate for the planned phase II. Will see if i can find an Evo one in Plymouth cheaply, but i wont hold my breath. Can anyone give me a rough idea of what pipework i'll need. I figure a couple 90 degree, a couple 45s and the odd straight piece. But thats just a guess, any input from someone whos actually done it would be invaluable.
3)Whats the ideal coolant mix for summer season?
Cheers in advance
