I have been offered a set of piper 274/274 cams for a good price, and am considering buying them. Not too worried about reduced bottom end as my car is pretty revvy as it is. The only concerns are will they work with std pistons, as I really don't want to go for pocketed ones yet (will do at some stage) and will it be possible to pass the MOT on them, as I have to pass the CAT test (no prob on std cams). Also what else will I need. Possibly new followers and valve springs? Don't know much about cams so any help appreciated lads
think you'll be ok with 274's, but totall lift @TDC would be a better indication as to whether you need to pocket the pistons, as for the mot emmisions, you should be fine, as long as its mapped properly, and yeah, new followers are a good idea, and you can check your springs when they come out by measuring their length, then see if you need new ones, see if you can get the lift details for them and go from there
Cheers lads, I think I am going to leave the cams just now, will need to investigate further. Will probably end up doing what miles has done and get std pocketed pistons fitted. Will then be able to go for a more aggressive profile. Doubt I will be doing that till next year however as I need the car as an everyday runner for tghe next while, and will need to save up lol.
tbh,if you're going for some decent 'aggresive' cams, you really want to up the compression to make the most of em(i.e fit omegas), if i were you i'd go for the pipers and stock pistons, no need to take the head off so not a major job to fit em, and will be way more suitable for an everyday car
