Im haveing troube getting 5th on my XE Cally with F20
box its started crunching somtimes when changeing to 5th.
I think the clutch is ok dose this mean my GB has had it?
Whots the best box to replace it with are the F18's better?
thats half the problem really, 5th gear is on the end of the box outside the main gear cluster and thus outside where all the oil is kept. still has feed holes and stuff, but it doesnt get masses of oil splashed at it from the diff thrashing through the gearbox oil like the rest of the gears.
Thanks for the replies
Ive just checked the linkige and it seems ok but
I cant change the oil untill I get a new gasket for the diff
I think that as its started crunching it might be a bit late for
an oil change but I try it.
If it needs a new box whots the best one to get should I
put in anouther F20 or are the F18's better and whots the
diffrence between an F18CR and a F18+CR?
I thought an F18 might be better cuz its newer are
the ratios the same as the F20?
When i checked it I put the drilll bit in the GB and I have a hole on the
bottem of the gear stick to put a drill bit in but it was a little bit
The stick was over to the left hand in line with the hole but the
Gear stick was about 6mm to far back so I left it cuz its a right
bu**er to get at the pinch bolt and I thought that with the stick being a
little to far back it would only cause a problem selecting 2nd and 3nd
witch are ok.
Definitely worth setting the linkage correctly....undo the clamp bolt and re set the linkage.... a bit of time fiddling to get a bolt undone is better than spending shed loads of cash for a simple adjustment
This should apply to most of the Vaux gearboxes...it does to the F16/F18 etc To re set the linkeage...set in neutral, on the top of the gearchange housing on the box there should be a small plastic plug... if you remove this then insert a 4.5 mm drill in the hole that is there and into the gearchange (ned to twist the rod one way or the other).Release the clamp on the gearchange tube. Un clip the gearlever cover and push the gearstick to the left and insert a 4.5 mm drill into the two holes there (earlier models need someone to hold it in line with an arrow.Tighten the clamp and all gears should be achieved...don't forget to remove drills!!
It is recommended to get a new plastic plug, but you should be ok to re use it
