As some of you may know i have recently bought a Calibra turbo. Upon first session of driving it seemed slower than my 16v and indeed when i ran it between two markers on a private test track i achieved 91mph whereas the 16v achieved 107. So my suspicions were confirmed.
Went straight out and bought a boost gauge today. (Notably perhaps, i disconnected the battery to reset the ECU). At first it seemed spot on, holding 0.6 and overboosting to 0.8bar. Then i got onto the dual carriageway and opened it up. In 3rd it hit 0.6 between 2500 and 4000revs but then fell back to 0.4 after 4000. Big difference before and after 4000rpm.
I then got off the dual carriageway. Put my foot down in 1st and 2nd and only achieved 0.3 bar boost. Same in 3rd too.
Basically despite the long windedness the car will only boost to 0.3bar no matter the rpm.
The turbo is less than 18months old and the actuator looks newish. The actuator rod shows about 2cm thread at the battery end.
The Engine management light doesnt come on.
What are the first things i need to be looking at?
The fact it seemed to boost to book values for the first bit of the journey, does this suggest the ECU found a fault and cut boost once it began learning again after being reset? I dont know how smart Motronic is to be honest.
Any advice, pointers would be appreciated.
