XE Idelin problems - Technical Guys HELP ME PLEASE.....it's not the ICV or the AFM
Hi been having this problem for some time now, bassically the car wont idle (intermitantly) somedays worst than others, and some days every time i put my foot on the clutch for too long it just dies.
when i say it won't idle i mean it fluctuates between 500 and 2.5k. sometimes when driving (fast) it's been known to stick as high as 6k
so to start with are a few problem's that i have with the car.
the radiator has split slightly loosing water from the top of the top hose, have to top up every 150ish miles.
the header tank is also leaking where one of the smaller pipes atatch to it.
iv'e just replaced the small breather pipe thats located on the front of the head, as the last one had a nasty kink in and i thought it may have been related to my idle problem, unfortantly it wasn't.
now i know the ICV's on these are known for playing around and have heard of people trying to clean them out, which to me seem's like a waste of time. (i would think if the ICV is cloged up then it's comming through the breather system and will just clog up again within a couple of weeks??)
i want to be really sure before i take the ICV of that it is going to cure the problem. hence trying every alternative first. the ICV on the XE is located under the intake manifold and is difficult to get at, i'd be so gutted if i take it all off clean it up for it too make no diffrence.
Hmm....intresting because in the last few weeks or so since it's been getting worst. i have noticed that fuel consumption is on the high side like i'd been booting it all the time when i hadn't been. i had just put it down to the fact the car is always reving high
It sounds like you might have an air leak, check all the hoses and gaskets.
AFM isn't that hard to do, I think your gonna have to bite the bullet, a least you'll know either way. probably take you 30mins to get it off, give a good going over with carb cleaner, then about 10mins to put it back on.
Took the car into Vauxhall this morning to get any codes on the ECU read, and came up with
1) code49 - Battery Voltage high
2) code37 - Tell Tale in control unit, possibly going to ground.
and there was a spoof code but i forgot what the No. was
So back to the workshop,
Checked the output on the battery - OK
Checked the output on the alternator - OK
Remove SFI Cover Box to inspect Throttle Bodie - Clean enough to eat ya dinner from
Remove ICV and hoses - All found to be spotless - clean them through with carb cleaner.
Check Emmision's: C02 = 1.4%, a little high so remove AFM clean and replace, still to high adjust AFM to lowwer C02; now reading 0.9% - OK
So, road test car still hunting and stalling.
Final conclusion IT'S GOTTA BE THE F*****G SUPPER CHIP causing the problem's so tomorow i'm going to fit the Standard chip and see how it runs
anyone got any other ideas, idont think its an air leak because the diagnostic reading would have picked it up
yeah feck the superchip off and put the standard one on.
if its hunting it might be a small air leak. I had this when half my SFI to throttlebody rubber seal was missing. Strip all the trucking off and inspect it for holes etc.
check that ring, if its not flush when you put the SFI chamber back on it might not seal properly. I disagree, I dont think the diagnostic will find an airleak, that needs a good old fashioned eye inspection.
Reset the ECU etc.
remove SFI box to inspect ring, found to be in tact and not letting any unmetered air, so time for the chip.
took the ECU out got it apart and removed to Superchip, replace chip with standard; put it all back together and guess what it wouldn't fire, so it looks like my standard chip has lost it's map, so remove it all again and this time i managed to snap a pin on the insert of the chip which had to be solderd back together so i could put the SuperChip back in after about 3 hours of messing around with it i managed to get it fired back up.
and then the strangest thing happened on my way home. IT WAS SPOT ON 1K all the time even after i revved it right up to the limiter in 3rd just came rite back down,
so somehow something iv'e done has cured the problem only i'm not sure what lol
