Just bought a S reg Astra 1.8 sport anyway driving it home thought hum can smell oil burning anyway look under car thismorning and i have been leaking oil also from the front of the engine if you look down by the cam belt etc at the bottom there is a pool of oil collected in the suspension arm ..
any ideas where the leak could eb coming from and how much of a job and money its going to cost me ????
cheers all will try that when i get home , cheers for the help , looking in the service history the oil and filter was changed at vauxhall about a month ago so maybe its loose , will get back to you all as at the moment feeling very stressed about it as it seems to be a lot coming out
seems like its the oil pump gasket , phoned vaux gasket is £3.87 to do the job they want like £345.00 :-( any ideas could they be wrong about the leak or has anyone had this problem before as they claim its a common thing ????
Leaks are a pain to diagnose. Only was to be sure is clean the bottom so its spick and span, jack the car up with the engine running, go camp underneath and see where it leaks.
I dont think its that common a problem, might be a mk4 ecotec problem though.
Yeah sounds like the oil pump gasket or the crank end seal.
Strangely, the oil pump gasket was a very common fault on the Mk3 ECO's (X16XEL's etc). Loads and loads were done under warranty.
Would have thought they had learnt their lesson by the time the Mk4 came along though - and infact, you get supplied with a pressed metal one now, as opposed to a paper one.
Check the basics first!
