When I got my engine converted to a c20 xe in my corsa the exhaust manifold and the exhaust did not meet up anyway my mate fitted some pipe to make it fit and welded it up, only prob is a little further down the exhaust theres like a clamp that wont tighten any more and its letting air out which sounds like a bag of hammers, is there anything that can be done without having to change the manifold maybe as thats not really the problem, many thanks Paul...
Get some gungum wrap from Halfords as a temporary measure. It's basically a rubber wrap that you put on the effected area.
Or take it to an exhaust place, they might be able to wack some putty in there or maybe even weld it.
My mate that had a look at it this morning says it looks like there was something placed there before liek putty but cos of the sheer power of the air thats coming out looks like its maybe been blown out
I am going to go to powerflow and get some bits made up from the exhaust manifold to the cat back, already have a powerflow dual exit exhaust on so I will see what they advise me, for now me mate has looked at the problem, it was where the two exhaust sections met and would not meet up propperly he put in like a washer kind of thing which made it more or less air tight and then tightened the clamp as far as possible then sealed it with gun gum and I have to say it sounds the best it has done so far sounds really meaty I am really pleased with it and cant wait to get the full system in many thanks for all the help appreciated Paul...
I wouldn't go to powerflow if I were you. The baffles in a Kwik fit rot box last longer.
Like I say I have a dual exit 6x4 setup and I am really happy with it so I just want to add to that wherever is the cheapest and most reliable place I will go to where would you advise Simon ? Cheers Paul...
Right I am going to have to look into this then and ask the local lads abotu some exhaust places and see what they say, as a short term fix till aia get cash sorted would I be stupid if I said this, as the donor car of the redtop the calibra has the exhaust that fits the manifold perfectly, could I not get an exhaust from the calibra and mate it upto mine and either get it calmped or welded or is that daft should I just wait and get it to a decent place ?
You'd have to do one hell of a lot of work to get a Calibra Exhaust to fit a Corsa, to the point where it would be pointless.
I'd just wait to get a decent place.
You may find some people like Powerflow. Maybe on a 1.0 Corsa it's sufficient lol, but on an XE, you want something that can take the heat and the gas flow.
Ok mate thanks a lot for your help its much appreciated I feel as if I know a little more now feel like I have a direction in which I need to go, is it quite feesable that I am loosing a bit of power with my exhaust being like this because I have only had the valver like this so would the system being fitted make a difference once everything is totally air tight ?
You may loose a bit of power. Unless it's hanging off then you won't notice it. The exhaust holds a certain amount of back pressure, this is actually good for the engine, so if you don't have an exhaust on there, the gasses will not be drawn out of the engine in the right way. But that's only a vague answer. It will fail an MOT though.
You might notice some difference in power with a good exhaust system, it'll be very vey minor.
