was driving ma girlfreinds nova gsi to work the other day nice and easy just as i was getting to work look in the mirror and white smoke everywhere could'nt see the road.pull over pop the bonnet smoke coming out, water everywhere.swithed the engine right away checked the oil dip stick was bone dry looked at the dash and the digi reading was showing full...so what damage do you think i've done one guy told me he done it to an escort and had to get a new engine whet you think??
The water is empty as well as the oil but i'm not sure if the just went when this happeded as the engine is covered in greasy water...need to sort the digi dash as it was showing oil full and the heat was ok when this happened

the digi dash doesnt have an oil level meter! it was showing full because its an oil pressure gauge and you dont have an oil pressure sensor fitted on that engine, so the dash shows high constantly.
did the red oil light on the dash flash to show low oil?
more than likly head gasket has blown. you could do a compression test to confirm though.
it does'nt just stay full sum times it drops to 3 quaters full and then full again so i'm guessing it's wired to something..as for the oil light nope it never came on and the temp was ok was'nt showing high.
so i need to toe it home in the next couple of days. so i'm i best not to put oil and water in and see is it starts will this cause more damage? and will toeing it cause more damage?
what pries i'm i looking at for skimming and pressure testing?
yup. when headgasket goes all the coolant gets into the engine not outside it 9/10 times (i was unlucky with 1 duff gasket but it just weeped at the front corner, nothing major tho i did send it back of course!)
