Had a strange problem today - car ran fine on way into work (although it did cut out once yesterday morning), got to work and left it all day.
Got back in after work, and within a couple of miles the temp gauge (which normally sits between 1/4 and 1/2 way in this weather - sometimes just over 1/2 way in heavy traffic) went up to 3/4. Traffic wasn't bad, same route at same speeds etc. This can usually be cured by a blast down the dual carriageway, but not today - needle sat at 3/4, fan came on, needle went down to just over 1/2 then back up again to 3/4. Going faster only made the needle go up!
Needle stayed at 3/4 all the way home - car was running fine except for this.
Checked coolant, oil etc. - all levels fine and no visible leaks of any kind.
Any one help please, as I need this for work again tomorrow!
car is 1.4 astra california, manual gearbox, just serviced, only 76,000 on the clock - never had any problems with it before.
