Hi to all at Migweb.
Having recently purchased a 2002 (old model) Vectra SRi 2.6 V6 24v, I've noticed that the engine appears to be making some strange noises. If there's anyone who specialises in or knows about these engines, I'd really appreciate some suggestions on whether there is a fault or if I'm being daft
1) When starting from cold, there is a noise I can only describe being like a water pump grating. This noise is engine speed-related, but disappears after a couple of minutes or so.
2) When accelerating hard, there is a whistling noise (don't laugh!!!) coming from the engine. Once I lift off the gas, the noise disappears.
3) When idling hot, the engine sometimes makes a ticking noise. I recently owned a Skoda Octavia vRS turbo, fitted with the VW group 1.8 20v 180bhp engine. This engine also ticked loudly at idle, which was eventually diagnosed as coming from the soleniod-operated exhaust recirculation valve, part of the emission system, which is normal on this engine. Does the Vauxhall V6 engine have a similar arrangement, which would make this ticking noise?
Car has 19k miles on, with a full Vauxhall history. Main dealer cannot take car in for 2 weeks, by which time these noises will be driving me mental!!!!
Any help or suggestions gratefully received.
