I have a cav turbo. Sometimes i can plant me right foot on the the pleisure peddle and the car goes pretty damn quick. Other times it goes no faster than my old cav gsi. I suspect its not boosting properly or not holding boost. What do you think? Could it be the actuator?
Right, I've fited a boost gauge and here are the results.
The car will boost up to about 7-8 psi in any gearfor about a second and then drop to about 5 psi. It will then fluctuate between 4 and 6 psi as it likes until i change gear at which point it will possibly run back up to 8 psi for a second before dropping again and fluctuating. The car just doesn't have the 'put you back in your seat' feeling that i expect. Any ideads? Is it possible that the actuator is sticking?
are the 2 hoses from the turbo into the boost control in the correct way, also check for splits in them, i replaced my actuator on 85000 and its a hell of a difference, but im now running a phase 1 chip so boost is 14, overboost at 19 and it holds this all the time now
over boost is exactly what you described in your orignial question. The turbo gives a few extra psi to help over taking etc, then it backs off and holds a certain predetermined boost level. I hope you werent thinkng this was a prob on your engine ??? It isnt, but your boost levels are still a bit low for a stock C20LET
Thats what i thought it was. It does'nt overboost consistently. Sometimes it will somtimes it won't. I think i'll get a new actuator. Out of curiosity. Which way does the Rod need adjusting to allow for more boost? Longer or shorter??
