Need help removing exhaust cam
Need to remove exhaust cam on a late c20xe, bit of a step into unknown, so any help much appreciated(needed?).
Have removed cam cover, bearing 11 on exhaust cam + sensor + dis plate etc., timing belt cover, airbox & hose.
What next? Can I just flip the timing belt off, undo remaining bearings (in vague headbolt sequence) and lift out cam or am I missing something?
Is the lining up of various timing notches something I only have to worry about when putting cam back in again?
take of the cam belt first, then just indo th cam caps, start in the middlke and work outwards, same when refitting, the caps need to br tightened to 15lb/ft
undo them in a pattern outwards-->inwards
tighten them in the same pattern but inwards--->outwards
It's important not to tighten/untighten more than one turn at a time. Do the pattern several times, better be safe than damage the cam or a bearing.
If you line up the cam timing marks before you take it out then it will be easier to line them up on refitting.
putting it back
aligned notches and took note of cap sequence, one exhaust cam removed.
couldn't release autotensioner as too cramped behind crank pulley; just lifted/ pulled belt off. Also left the cam sprocket attached, assume this won't affect refitting.
Thanks for advice so far, now for putting it back......
So anything to look out for in refitting? I have all the relevant torque settings.
Saw something about putting rtv under first and last cap - should it be red or black?
RTV could be transparent, too. It's just silicon really...
Don't use too much, you don't want it squeezing and dropping off inside the oil passages.
