Few things i need ironing out. LET nova, running temps and rad choice

.got a few questions about the nova.

before when it was on the road the temp gauge never moved above 1/4 mark, same rad as i had before(custom twin core one). when i put it back together this time the rad had a leak so i got it repaired and the guy said the thing wasnt in the best condition now. now the temp sits at half way, the car heats up quick as hell to, any gen? im hinking rad but want to cover all options

secondly, what rad would suffice(read as fit with a fan on) from another model nova? does the gsi onefit with its fan still attached? im tempted to take the thermostat out and run it without one, will this bugger up the pressure side of things in the cooling system?

    cheers

nope. it had a long split in it about an inch long and you can see where its been brazed.

    new valeo red

    td fan anf cowling

    oz spec stat

p.s. you don't really need the fan unless it's going to overheat... i'm not fitting one on my nova... if it gets too hot then i'm going slow enough to push it!

whats the gen on the valeo rad? where from and how much? do the end tank match up ok?

i never had a fan on it last time it was on the road but sitting in crawling motorway traffic it was a nightmare, especially in the summer with the heaters on full to keep it cool!!

    cheers

    nothing :(
hey rodger sorry to hear ur having more troubles with ur car mate. couldnt be an air lock in the rad itself? the courtney temp stats are £22 i think and idea behind them is it lowers the engines running temp towards the optimum temperature, something like 75-90 degrees (i think). one as low as this would make the heater system pretty shocking tho so there stat is a bit higher rated (82-98??) ill check the issue of TV for the details and let u know mate.

    passat TDI
get the 82 degree stat from vaux on trade club for bout £17 iirc.
the td rad(same as gsi spec, might even be bigger)+fan, i read on here in another post that the td fan will fit if you have a different intercooler, with the std intercooler the pipework will foul on the fan...

The low running temp stats just open earlier, once sat in traffic with the stat fully open the will run no cooler,it just runs cooler under normal operating conditions.
And in normal op. conditions the heater will be poor, which is no good in the uk!!
Personally id just get a new standard stat.
A gte/gsi rad will be fine, but the tubo melts the plastic fan cowling.

does that apply to all engines odders or just turbo ones? i was considering getting a cool running stat for my SEH, but if this is the case would i be better off just keeping the standard one?
