i could do with someone to take a look at my xe'd corsa, i did the headgasket recently myself but i not sure its been one properly, the top end is tapping alot but i think this is due to the fact that the oil is very thin, ive drained the oil out and flushed it bout 5 times and put good stuff in but i think water is still mixing with it as it goes a very light brown.
anyone fancy it, car us at British Car Auctions in belle vue at the mo as this is my place of work and ive been storing it there for a while
The taping is just the hydraulic lifters,at worst once the engine is up to temp it shuts up,you may find it gets better after use as that engine hasnt been run properly in god knows how long, see what its like after 1000 miles and another oil change.
Sounds like either you didnt do the head gasket right or the dreaded porous head has struck again.
Why did you change the head gasket anyway?
When you did the HG did you make sure the head and block mating surfaces were spotlessly clean and free from deep scratches etc?
Did you use a new HG and new bolts, new bolts must be used as they are stretch bolts, and obviously a new gasket must be used, fitted dry,no sealant, water or oil.
Did you do the bolts up in the corect sequence, this is 'vitally' important, the first stage is to be done to a certain torque with a torque wrench, then it is angle tightened a futher 2 or 3 stages.
They must also be done up in the correct sequence which is a kind of spiral sequence, the torque values, angle stages and sequence are usually supplied with a new set of head bolts.
Another possability is the head was warped and needed skimming before you did it.
Or the head has gone porous.
Another common thing is a small amount of oil and water got mixed when doing the HG and a few oil and water changes are needed to get rid of it all, this happened on my XE when i did the HG,you **** yourself for a while!
Cant wait to see this corsa at a meet and running properly, its been off the road for ages now!
it runs fine part from the tapping and the oil, oh and the heaters dont work.
the headgasket was done in the first place cos it was defo gone, all new bolts/gaskets were used and torqued up in the correct sequence according to the haynes manual but the head wasnt skimmed so prob messed up there
dave, do you fancy having a look at it sometime, if i get it home this week maybe when u pik your car up when its sprayed u cud have a quik look? be much appreciated if u cud
