C20LET Fault Code 42?
42-Vehicle speed sensor (VSS) High voltage
42-1 gear ident switch (C20LET systems) High voltage
Why would this come up, the ecu light came up when i got to 120mph and stored the above code, according to topbuzz site it means the fault above.
where is the vss located and what could cause it?
On your gearbox there is a first gear recognition switch. Most probably the plug has come off.
Is it running on low boost now?
nope, boost is fine, light only comes on when u boot it in 5th, reset ecu and same thing happens and it gives the same code.
Funny that, maybe the two are not related.
Try unwinding the actuator a turn or two and see if the fault goes away.
Check the first gear switch for faulty wiring nevertheless, you don't get a ECU fault stored without reason.
ok will try that and let u know how i get on.
According to the manual, once code 42 is stored, it runs in 'safe boost' mode.
That's why yours is weird - have you got an uprated actuator?
yep, courtenay uprated one.
So even if the ECU tries to run at a few psi, the actuator won't let it. That explains it.
at the moment its holding 5-6psi and going up to 8psi full throttle, i have a in car adjuster but i never use that as it is crap on only takes it up 1 psi, u reackon i should remove that adjuster?
So you're running stock boost, don't you
I'd first just reduce boost a bit and see how it goes.
Verify that the gearbox switch is OK, you don't get the error code unless there's a fault (even if it's transient)
ok will get all that checked out!
