I have done a search and got overwelmed by the amount of tech talk about such a suttle little brown blob.
While trying to find the answer to why my starter motor stalls like the engines too far advanced I thought if I disconnect the knock sensor I will get a fault light and 8deg of retard. The idea being that with that level of retard the starter should not stall and so prove at least that its ing advance related.
Removed the plug and started the car, no dash fault lamp lit?
Left it to idle a while then engine off and check fault codes stored, no code either?
I take it the knock sensor isnt looked at by the ecu at idle at all then, makes sense really as the engine is unlikely to pink on idle
My question I suppose then is when in rpm does the ecu take notice of the knock sensor?
