Right people, ive a 1992 1.2 Nova (carb) the engine has covered nearly 70k. When i bought the car it had a full service history and a cambelt change at 50k.
Ive had the car just over 1 year and the engine has been beautiful, revs really freely and can be revved hard. Ive had no noises coming from the engine what-so-ever done about 8k in this year.
Ive done three oil changes (with filters) in that time the first two times i put in 10w40 part synth Castrol Magnatec, but recently i put in 20w50 Duckhams classic as it was burning through the 10w40 too quickly.
Id say about a month after the oil change when i start the car it makes a "ticka, ticka, ticka, ticka" continusly and gets faster with the revs. My dad complains about this sound on his old cav's.
Is it my hydraulic tappettes/valve lifters???? Is my oil two thick ???
Is it time to realise the old is going to get old?? etc...
Im not a mechanic so i seek the help of people with experience of this. What can i do to stop this as my engine sounds wonderful without this sound.
