Hi, i have a 1.6 (spi) MK3 Astra
During last week my heaters started blowing cold, so on Friday my brother topped up my water and coolant (there wasnt a drop of water in it).
On Friday night i never drove the car far and the same on Saturday during the day, but on Saturday night i was out a wee drive. Stopped for a while chatting to friends and when i go to go home the car wouldnt start (thought it was a dead battery, even though all the electrics and lights were working), after 5 or 6 unsuccessful attempts at bump starting it, we decided to get another car and jump start it. Just as they were about to leave to get the other car i tried my engine 1 more time and it suddenly burst into life. BUT ......... It had massives of White smoke bellowing from it Poped the bonnet and the water had oil in it too. I drove it home being VERY careful that the car didnt overheat, but much to my surprise the temp. gauge never even went up half way.
I was told at the time that its prolly the head gasket thats gone, but now wondering if the head will be damaged too.
I've had that many people giving their opinions that i just dont know, phoned a cyclinder specialist today and they said if the car hasnt overheated then its very unlikey that the head is cracked/damaged.
Do you think it just my gasket or do you think my heads damaged too.
ANY help at all would me much appreciated and heres a beer just for reading my long boring post
