bit a silly question this, but why does advancing the igntion increase horsepower ? is it because the plug is fired earlier, thus giving more time for the flame to travel throughout the cylinder ?
another thing, why do you have to retard the ignition when using chemical agents in the fuel like meth or nitrous. that would imply that the fuel has a quicker burn rate so needs to be ignited later. is this correct ? i woudl have thought the opposite, because a charge with a higher density needs longer time to burn, so wouldnt the above nitrous example need advance actually ?
